And we give much of our time over to watching such demonstrations of ability. But as with all things mortal, these things shall soon pass away, and are only ours for a short span of time. Not so with the man or woman of faith! We have a God who possesses all power and strength, for He is omnipotent (almighty), and He uses that power on our behalf to rescue us, to sustain us, and to bear us up in our weaknesses. In our mortal weakness, when we are feeling the effects of sin, we have this Mighty God and Savior that we can always call upon. And we trust that the One who cares for each and every sparrow, will also, in His great love and mercy, care for you. ADULT BIBLE CLASS: Today we continue that blessed and beloved chapter 8 of Paul’s letter to the ROMANS! Please join us today for Bible Class! We begin at 9:25! IN SUNDAY SCHOOL: "Jesus Heals a Man Who Is Paralyzed" is the lesson for Sunday School today. The miracle of healing the paralytic confirms that Jesus, the Son of Man, has authority on earth to forgive sins and it confirms what the Son of Man chiefly came to do: deliver us and all believers from sin, death, and the power of the devil. Consider discussing, "In addition to healing the paralyzed man, what else does Jesus tell him? How has Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin?" J.O.Y. BIBLE STUDY will be this Tuesday, February 7. It will be held at Cathy Henderson’s home. 192 Blue Crane in Slidell. Call Cathy (985.641.4752) for details or directions for the gathering which begins at 9:30 A.M. SUNDAY SCHOOL SPRING TEACHERS!! Our quarterly planning meeting will be this Tuesday, beginning at 7:00! The teachers who have volunteered to bless our children are: Gwyn Ellerman (High School), Susanna Heath (Jr. High), Connie Boteler (4-5), Leif and Evie Wismar (1-3), and Fran Barousse (Pre K – K). Thanks to all of you who faithfully serve! See you there! WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE CLASS: We are continuing in our study of the book "The Spirituality of the Cross…the Way of the First Evangelicals". We invite all to come and learn these truths in regard to our Lutheran spirituality! Our study is every Wednesday, beginning at 10:30! CATECHETICAL REVIEW: Question #42: "Who alone has kept the Law of God perfectly?" Only Jesus Christ, the God-Man. (See John 8:46 & Heb. 4:15). ALTAR FLOWERS are given today to the glory of God by Andy and Gina Suprean. .2011 ANNUAL STATEMENTS have been mailed. If you think you should have received one and you have not, please contact the church office (985.847.1877). REMEMBER to sign the registration books during the offering. This is how we as pastor, elders, and office, keep track of attendance and do things "decently and in order", to care for God’s flock. Please follow through on this, and help others to remember as well. Thank you! FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER IS HERE! Pick-up your copy. DVD COPIES of the Children’s Christmas Program are available. Many thanks to Cindy Schneida for making the original which we have duplicated. If you want a copy, see the church office. A small donation to cover the cost of materials is requested. FAITH BASED SHELTERING: The St. Tammany Parish Government needs willing volunteers to participate in taking care of those who are in crisis, such as following a hurricane. The Council has determined that our building would not be sufficient for housing people, but we can still volunteer at other facilities. If you would be willing to assist during such crises, please contact Pastor. Thank you! COMMUNITY COFFEE MUGS are still available for a donation of $5.00 each. You can leave the mug on the cart or take it with you. Using these mugs reduces the cost of styrofoam cups and the amount of trash with which we deal. Both are good reasons to "adopt a mug". DISTRIBUTION MEDITATION: Each Sunday as you wait to attend the Lord’s Table, prayerfully meditate on the great gift you are receiving, preparing yourself by using the questions from Luther’s Small Catechism found on pages 329 and 330 in the hymnal or by using the aid in the hymnal rack. PASTOR VISITS: From Pastor Heath: As you may know, it is my intention to visit each member of Lamb of God ASAP, that we can get to know each other better, and grow as a family! I would like to schedule some visits this month. To schedule a visit, there is a sign-up sheet posted in the Narthex or you can contact me or the church office to pick the time which is convenient for you and yours (I’d like the WHOLE family to be included). Thank you! LARGE PRINT bulletins and newsletters are now available. Ask the Elders or Ushers for one.THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS: Last month, generous contributions of $36.00 were received by Lamb of God from Thrivent members who directed Thrivent Choice dollars to the church. Many thanks to those who remember Lamb of God in this way. WINN DIXIE COMMUNITY PALS PARTNERSHIP WORKS: PLEASE remember to have your rewards card with the gasoline benefit encoded with Lamb of God’s bar code. You can use ONE card for both gasoline savings and to direct Winn Dixie Community Pals dollars to Lamb of God. Code sheets can be found in the literature rack in the Narthex. Lamb of God receives about $150.00 per month through this program. If you shop at WINN DIXIE please do not ignore this opportunity to help our congregation. PRAYER REQUEST CHANGES: Pastor Heath invites all who would like him to include their prayer need in his personal prayer regime to use the cards and the Prayer Box which have been placed at the rear of the Sanctuary. Please complete the card as indicated and place the card in the box. He will add your request to his personal meditation. However, the elimination of the bulletin card means that if you have a prayer request you want published or forwarded to the Prayer Chain, please contact the church office.
RECYCLE BIN BENEFITS THE EARTH AND OUR YOUTH: Revenue generated through the newspaper recycle program is dedicated to the Senior and Junior Youth Funds. This money helps defray some of the expenses of participation in various activities. You can help the Youth Programs by saving and depositing old newspapers in the bin. The recycler has informed us that the bin can now be used for magazines and white copy paper as well as newspaper. He reminds us that plastic, string, cardboard, and phone books are NOT acceptable. ADDITIONAL USHERS NEEDED: Mike Underwood asks that anyone who can help with the Usher duties on Sundays contact him at 985.845.3192. He needs help for both services. INFORMATION UPDATES NEEDED: Please, look at your listing and call the office (985.847.1877) with changes. SOUTHERN DISTRICT OFFERS FINANCIAL AID: Grants-in-Aid are available through the Southern District for members-in-good-standing of a LCMS Congregation who desire to pursue a church work career. Included are Pastor, Teacher, DCE, DCO, DPM, DFL, Deaconess, and Lay Minister. Assistance ranges from $1,800.00 for a freshman to $3,500.00 for a Year 4 Seminary student. Visit the website, www.southernlcms.org for details.FROM THE ELDERS: Everyone’s cooperation is needed to establish the appropriate atmosphere for our Worship Services. Listen for the Pre-service Music . When you hear it begin, stop visiting and talking, take a seat, and use the time preceding the Worship Service for contemplation and prayer. This will benefit all in our congregation. FOOD MINISTRY DONATIONS REQUESTED: Lamb of God is accepting donations of food to be given to the food ministry of Lutheran Church of the Pines. A container will be placed in the Narthex for your donations. The very successful partnership with this congregation at Thanksgiving and Christmas encourages us to continue assisting with their very active ministry. RESOURCES AVAILABLE: The tall bookcase on the right in the classroom in the narthex is packed with resource materials which are useful in your daily life. There are books, prayer aids, cd’s, and much more. Please feel free to help yourself. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT LAMB OF GOD: It is time to urge everyone to make or renew a commitment to volunteer to help with one of the ministries at Lamb of God. All skill levels, ages, availability, and both genders are needed! Some of the help is needed on an event-by-event basis and some opportunities are on-going. Contact the chairperson of the committee which most interests you. You will be glad you did. SUNDAY MORNING FELLOWSHIP : Treats - The Morning Fellowship Sign-up Sheet is posted in the foyer. Participation is always needed. Treats, whether home made or store bought are welcome.VIAL OF LIFE: Our Care Ministry Committee is working with Fire Protection District No. 1 to distribute Vials of Life. These are small plastic bottles which are to be filled with a written medical history (form supplied) for each member of the household. The vial is then stored in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator and a fridge magnet (which is also included) should be displayed to indicate that the vial is in the freezer. Emergency response personnel are trained to look for the vial which will help them treat the patient properly. CONGREGATION HELP AVAILABLE BUT INFORMATION NEEDED: Pastor and the Elders are a great resource for spiritual support and counsel. They stand ready to visit with members and friends who are ill, shut-in, have been hospitalized, or would otherwise benefit from a visit, but they need to know who these members are. Our Care Committee is also in need of information about those who would benefit from a card, telephone call, or perhaps a meal. Contact Pastor, an Elder or the church office if you would like to avail yourself of these services or if you know of a member in need.
